Rules and Regulations:

Thiyagi Elango, a freedom fighter who played a major role in the freedom struggle movements of India. In remembrance of him, Thiyagi Elango Memorial Inter School Competitions are conducted every year to promote the idea of holistic development in every child. This year Thiyagi Elango memorial Inter school competitions will be conducted at Comorin International School, Aralvaimozhi. The rules and regulations for each category are as follows:

1. Rhymes Recitation:

Time limit: 3 minutes

The judgment will be based on:

  • Clarity of speech (should not slur, mumble or swallow words).
  • Audibility
  • Ability to convey emotions through voice modulation, non-verbal communication techniques, facial expression and body language.

2. Storytelling

The duration of the story shall not exceed 4 minutes.

Storytelling shall be graded on the following criteria: 

  • Content and application of the story to the world or our lives.  
  • Clarity – pronunciation of words and voice strength.
  • Presentation – Memorization, audience contact, body language, and gestures.

3. Colouring

  • Category A (LKG & UKG) – Topic – National flower
  • The participant must use only crayons.
  • Time limit : 1 hour
  • The picture of the National flower shall be given.

4. Bharatanatyam – solo

The duration of dance should be limited to 5 minutes. Only recorded CDs are allowed. Boys can also participate but there will be no separate category.

Judging of this event will be based on:

  • Appearance
  • Suitability and appeal of costumes
  • Footwork
  • Facial expression (abhinayam)
  • Mudra
  • Rhythm
  • Presentation

5. Vocal – classical

Item can be presented carnatic style. Sufficient care and thought must be exercised in the choice of raga and composition.

Judgment is based on the qualities like tal, selection of raga, swaram, thalam, composition and overall impression.

6. Vocal – light music

The participant should choose a meaningful patriotic song of about 3 minutes duration. No background music and instruments are allowed.

 

Judgment criteria :

  • Poise – The participant should be comfortable and relaxed with no jerky movements.
  • Clarity – The words of the song should be clear and audible.
  • Voice – The presentation should be melodious and powerful.
  • Theme – Patriotic song
  • Swaram, thalam, ragam, composition and overall impression will be taken into consideration.

7. Drawing

Category B ( Gr 1 & 2) – The National Bird

Category C (Gr 3 to 5) – The National Animal

Rules:

  • The participant must carry drawing materials like pencil, eraser, sharpener etc
  • The participant of Category B (Gr 1 & 2) must use only colour pencil and Category C (Gr 3 to 5) must use only oil pastel crayons.
  • Time limit : 1 hour
  • Drawing chart shall be given.
  • The participant should draw the picture and color it.

8. Elocution

Category D (Gr 6 to 8) – Topic – The freedom fighter who inspires me the most

Time limit: 3 minutes

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA

  • Introduction 
  • Structure - Structure, Organization,
  • Balance : Development of material, major points, transition
  • Language - Grammar, Pronunciation, Vocabulary
  • Content - Relevance to topic, logic, originality, accuracy, illustrations
  • Delivery - appearance, poise, self-confidence, style, voice modulation, facial expression, eye contact, enthusiasm, gesticulation, effectiveness
  • Recapitulation and conclusion
  • Overall impression

9. Quiz – Indian History

1. Only team entries are eligible, and team shall consist of two persons

2. The decision of the quiz-master will be final and will not be subjected to any change.

3. The participants shall not be allowed to use mobile or other electronic instruments.

4. The questions shall be in the form of multiple choice, True / False statement, Specific answer question etc. for preliminary round.

5. Audience/Supporters shall not give any hints or clues to the competitors.

6. Replacement of any participant of a team is not allowed after registration

PRELIMINARY ROUND

1. Each team would be given a set of question paper containing 20 questions.

2. Time limit - 15 minutes

3. Only 6 Teams would be selected for STAGE ROUNDS

4. In case of tie between 2 or more teams, further 5 questions would be asked for final selection 

5. The selected teams shall have to appear for the final round

FINAL QUIZ - STAGE ROUNDS

ROUND-1 (Rules for General Round)

  • Each team will be asked 2 questions of 10 marks each. They will be given 30 seconds for each question.
  • If the allotted team is unable to answer the question then the question will passed on to the subsequent teams.
  • Subsequent teams will be given 15 seconds to answer & will be awarded 5 marks for each correct answer.

 

ROUND-2 (Rules for Buzzer Round)

  • There will be 8 questions in this round. Team pressing the buzzer first will be given the chance to answer.
  • If the allotted team is unable to answer the question then the question will not be passed on to the subsequent teams.
  • 15 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • Team will be given 60 seconds for each question.

 

ROUND-3 (Rules for Specialized topic)

  • Every team will have to choose their favourite topic from the given list.
  • The topics are First war of Indian Independence, Formation of Indian National Congress, Formation of Muslim league, Non- co- operation movement, Quit India movement, Constitutional development of India.
  • Every team will be asked 2 questions from their chosen subjects.
  • They will be given 60 seconds for each question.
  • 15 marks will be awarded for every correct answer.

 

ROUND-4 (Rules for Personality Identification Round)

  • Every team will be asked to identify a personality.
  • Three hints will be provided for every question.
  • 20 marks will be awarded for the correct answer after 1st.
  • 15 marks will be awarded for the correct answer after 2nd.
  • 10 marks will be awarded for the correct answer after 3rd.
  • 60 seconds will be given for each question.

 

ROUND-5 (Rules for – Rapid fire round)

  • Each team will be asked to nominate a member from their team.
  • Nominated member will be given 60 seconds for 10 questions in this round.
  • 5 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
